The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is an American copyright law passed by the 105th United States Congress in order to implement treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization. The bill went into effect on the 28th of October 1998.

There are many examples of the proper uses of DMCA such as takedowns of copyrighted material with no alternate motive and DRM. However it is important to see how a law is being abused when evaluating its worth. It is also important to evaluate the value of the premise of the the law and its applicability to the present day climate when evaluating its worth.
