This is currently a draft for demonstration on Discord.
What is this
Stop Killing Games is an international effort to end the company practice of selling you a game at sometimes considerable cost and then yanking away your ability to play it without resource.
Its flagship resource is stopkillinggames.com. They congregate officially on Discord and on Reddit. There is a community wiki at wiki.gg.
They are working on an FAQ and a dedicated US coordination space, but these have not yet been published as of 7/02/2026, when this page was last changed.

The opposition
Stop Killing Games runs directly against the interests of a powerful video game lobby, the Entertainment Software Association, which among other things brought you the ESRB and was formed to dodge the violence in video games moral panic at the time. It has since been a major enemy of software freedom in the vein of video games:
Expect to run up against this organization in particular when pressing this issue, as it is extremely well funded and is backed by the likes of Sony and Nintendo. The antics of all three are further documented at Consumer Rights Wiki: ESA, Sony, Nintendo.
How to help
Party actionables
There is a significant movement in California, and it is the state with the most momentum to make a change. And so, the California Pirate Party is a key pillar to assist with the movement.
The Press Committee could potentially look at partnership, but there are not actionable ideas how this would work to report yet. There has also not been a party discussion yet to adopt this as a working issue.
Further notes on what can be done by parties are welcome.
