21:09:52//Woden> Calling the meeting to order at 9:09 Eastern
<Woden> IDs?
<Woden> Anthony Jay Porter, PNC chair, IN
<yari> Rose Klein, CA rep, USPP scribe
<pmchi> Mitchel Davilo, Chicagoland/ILPP, Swarmcare Manager
<Wanda> Wanda Ward from Florida
<Jester> Ashley Melody, Indiana interim rep
<Msxv> Sarai Oviedo texas
<Woden> Always good to have FL and TX observers
<Woden> Do we have an agenda?
<pmchi> American Mediterranean representation
<yari> we do not
<pmchi> That’s not the agenda, that’s addressing TX and FL’s presence
<Woden> What can we do to help you with that in the future? Other than submitting reports ahead of time which you would like us to do more
<yari> I need an assistant. I've said this.
<Msxv> What kind
<yari> But also to be honest I think part of it is just that I'm in thesis hell
<Msxv> Oh no
<yari> it's a bit of both
<Msxv> Don't we also have to talk about what the committees did
<Msxv> The folx have been busy
<Woden> Fair all around lol
<yari> we do. Woden is asking a question out of order because he thought it important
<yari> which it is
<Woden> I will go ahead and do committees, but if anyone can look over our past few meetings and see what hasn't been resolved while they aren't on deck, I would appreciate that
<Woden> Starting with officers, Swarmcare?
<Msxv> LVT, campaign position, conflict resolution, mcpiratey
<pmchi> Planning ahead for May’s regional outreach
<pmchi> No significant Swarmcare related business
<pmchi> It will be for the Heartland Pirates
<Msxv> (Florida is getting closer to affiliating)?
<Woden> Thank you Msxv!
<pmchi> Matthew Crowley says bylaws and platform are written for FL, and the website is all that separates them from voting, I reckon
<Woden> I saw an idea about floating them a subdomain in the meantime, I don't know what would stop that from happening
<Wanda> I'm certainly looking forward to there being a Florida website because that would make it significantly easier to spread info about the Pirates in Florida
<Msxv> Yay FL!
<Woden> We will do some R&D into the subdomain thing so you all can at least meet the requirement and have a contact form
<Woden> Then boon
<Woden> boom
<Woden> Anything else?
<Woden> If not from swarmcare, Secretary?
<Msxv> Is Pirate chat swarm care
<pmchi> It’s probably Outreach but with swarm praxis
<Msxv> Ok
<yari> hi sorry
<Woden> You will have your time V, no worries
<Msxv> Not me
<pmchi> Can we get any remaining reports?
<pmchi> (If any)
<yari> I've been making sure everything goes smoothly on the voting page front. I can't remember what the last update on that was. Everything there is up and running now. Sent out the ping for that on the discord server, and will be writing a blog post and email today. Been really slow to get those, honestly.
<Msxv> (yes)
<Woden> I gave Yari the floor and I don't want to make anything messy.
<Woden> Oh there we go
<Woden> Sounds good! Thank you Yari
<Woden> Anything else before I read the treasury report
<yari> nope
 Msxv has left
<pmchi> It the name of old business, I’d like to talk about the conference nominations
<Woden> Added to the list of business
 Msxv3 has joined
<pmchi> Oh I’m sorry AJ I saw you’re typing the report
<pmchi> Apologies!!!
<Woden> From Joe: "389.18 in the bank, mass has some objections but not my place to bring up. nothing else to report. Meeting for international on Tuesday." I asked if there is anything we need to not talk about tonight so MA can comment, if they get back to me I will let everyone know
<Woden> I think that is it for officers.
<yari> I would like to specifically talk about the director of public relations and the state moderator positions as well in new business
<Woden> Committees next. Platform?
<yari> that is a continuation of previous discussions
<Woden> Added
<yari> OH and I have an item of new business that was brought up to me by drew, probably worth discussing here.
<pmchi> I don’t believe platform has any reports
<Msxv3> I can't switch to discord
<Woden> Should I throw it at the start or end of anything I'm considering new business?
<Woden> Making my mock agenda now
<yari> end
<Msxv3> But we did platform
<Woden> Any decisions come out of it?
<Msxv3> If you search for "report"
<Msxv3> No decision
<yari> direct democracy?
<Msxv3> UBI discussion.
<pmchi> YES I see it, they discussed UBI and economical issues
<Msxv3> Cool cool cool
<yari> thank you for typing that, v
<Woden> Okay, cool. Hope to see more in the future.
<Woden> It?
<Msxv3> Oh IT has a to do list now
<yari> There was an asynch meeting/check in of sorts
<yari> ^
<yari> which is awesome. v is really on this shit
<Msxv3> Jamie's post
<yari> yep
<Msxv3> I'm just really invested in growth and believe in us ^^
<yari> ^^
<Woden> Let's not stretch V too thin now, wouldn't want him to dissapate into dust
<yari> Agreed
<Msxv3> (from dust u come to dust shall return (
<yari> Jamie made a todo list and we all checked in, that's about it
<Woden> Fair
<Msxv3> It's ok I've been delegating
<Woden> Cool. Look forward to it.
<Woden> Outreach? Provisional Outreach Web Marines?
<Msxv3> Ok. Wanda is in charge of next times game Pirate chat social. I think we're doing scribble.io
<Wanda> I'm sorry, what?
<Msxv3> Ok it was a really good idea
<Msxv3> My bad. Next pirate chat we're trying a social.
<yari> as in - games and such?
<Msxv3> Then we got some sort of procedure for graphics requests.
<Msxv3> Yes. Just online games if the mood works. It was really Wanda's idea.
<yari> nice
<Msxv3> (pls Wanda correct me)
<Wanda> I'm alright with hosting a game. I don't like having it assigned to me without being consulted beforehand
<Msxv3> I apologize. I thought that it was a firmer plan.
<Woden> Triple checking plans is never a bad idea, haha
<Wanda> It's alright. I'm willing to host a game whenever y'all schedule it so long as im available
<yari> pirate chat is still tuesday eve, correct?
<Msxv3> And good for us to continue our conflict resolution skills. Thank you. Wanda //3
<Msxv3> Yes still same times.
<yari> Cool. wanda can you check if you can host games then?
 Msxv3 has quit
<Wanda> On Tuesday?
<yari> 10pm eastern I think
<yari> yes
<yari> would likely involve just starting things off
<Woden> Yari, whenever you figure out how the PNC is delegating tasks, can we toss those system to outreach? That would help prevent accidental volunteering
<Wanda> Alrighty. I can host a game that day
 ElmoMusk and Msxv4 have joined
<yari> Woden I admit to being completely confused by that question
 Jester has quit
<Msxv4> Also, just nothing that official. If you're online, then ya. If not.
 Jester has joined
<Msxv4> Again, i apologize.
 Jester has quit
<yari> I appreciate the potential importance here, and would like to also move on to business
<Woden> Ah no worries, Yari
<yari> I feel as though we have a lot on our plate still
<Woden> We do
<Woden> Also poor Jester
<yari> unless Jester doesn't return
<Woden> Any objections to beginning business?
<yari> none
 Jezter has joined
<Jezter> I’m back
<Jezter> From the grave
<Jezter> With the wrong spelling
<yari> welcome back from the grave
<Woden> If Jester does not stabilize in time for a vote then we will figure that out, but I think we're looking at informal discussion today so I am not worried about their ethereal nature
<yari> Jezter we're moving on to business if that's cool
<Jezter> That’s fine by me
<Woden> I wish you a corporeal form
<Woden> The old business section we've cobbled together is mostly convention related.
<Woden> It looks like this
<Woden> PNC2023: - Nominations - Positions - Other updates
 Msxv4 has quit
<Woden> Pmchi, what didyou want to say on nominations?
<yari> ^
 Msxv4 has joined
<yari> always curious of the same, pmchi has those good takes
<pmchi> I wanted to, for next week, formalize how we are wording the advisory board in the bylaws, as well as the formalization of moving of the positions to the advisory board. I’m hoping to get that vote next week, over video, so we can more appropriately focus on the conference itself.
<yari> that's a good idea
<Woden> Okay, that is more or less Yari's item of business so let's merge the two
<yari> yeah
<pmchi> Agreed
<yari> I figured as much, tbh
<Woden> Yari wants to bring up unlisting PR and webmaster from the nominations form for the time being, since we may turn them into appointed advisory positions
<Woden> I fully support this. Though - did anyone make any nominations for those?
<yari> I didn't say that actually
<Woden> Oh?
<Woden> Whoops
<yari> webmaster is still on there
<Woden> You said to talk about the direction, slight differnce
<Woden> PR is too, right?
<yari> PR and State Moderator are already pulled from the nominations form
<yari> they were pulled by a vote last week
<yari> as a temporary measure at least
<yari> so there are no nominations for them
<pmchi> Next week, I will motion to move those officially to advisory board
<pmchi> I’d like for us to have a discussion on the matter, over video, prior to the matter
<Woden> Understood. Sorry, I was confident I had the lists right in my head
<Woden> What do we want to do as of this meeting?
<yari> I was initially going to suggest pulling both webmaster and auditor as well, but I think after review that just pulling webmaster and moving that positon to the advisory board makes sense.
<yari> I think an imporant point here is deliniating the distinction between the advisory board and the officers
<pmchi> I think we’ll need to vote on the wording and creation of the advisory board before we can move too far. Can’t move positions to what doesn’t exist
<yari> agreed, pmchi - I guess I'm curious for myself then. Can you remind me what you see as the fundamental difference between the two?
<pmchi> The advisory board should be appointed by the PNC officers, and should be able to be left vacant. The PNC officer positions are the ones we’re being voted into and none of those positions should be left vacant
<yari> Can I suggest a further deliniation that we begin to enforce further down the line, though likely not right away?
<Woden> Go ahead
<yari> --> the advisory board is allowed to hold positions as alternative representatives to the PNC, but the officers are not.
<Woden> So - you are envisioning a future where officers aren't also voting reps?
<yari> I think being an officer and being a state rep at the same time is lining up to be a lot of work
<yari> so yes
<yari> I think voting reps should be their own thing, ideally
<pmchi> So essentially, what the case is for the captain, but for all?
<yari> all officers
<yari> In that case, I would further recommend moving the 'political director / navigator' position to an officer position
<yari> think of officer positions as the necessary positions to run the ship, the ones which require more work and therefore should always be filled and always run by someone with less on their plate
<yari> i.e., someone who is not also doing another role
<yari> the officers are already held accountable to the PNC by the bylaws
<pmchi> ^Okay so in that regard, we already established that State Moderator and Political Director would be merged. If you want navigator to remain a PNC member state, then we shouldn’t move state moderator, just rename it and better lay out the duties of the role
<pmchi> PNC officer position, not member state
<yari> ^^
<yari> exactly
<yari> I think that somewhere between state moderator and political director, there is a position that is absolutely necessary to our functioning
<pmchi> So what is, in your estimation, the PNC officer roles and advisory board roles at the end of Piratey McPirateface?
<Woden> Personally, I think there is a good reason why these two ideas went hand in hand. It's not literally critical to the party and works best as someone beholden to the party. Similarly, I don't think there is a reason to assume who will and will not be using multiple hats so specifically and decide things based on rules about that we haven't passed yet
<yari> one which is currently being taken on by a combination of woden and pmchi
<Woden> Who knows what hats can be shared and which ones can't outside of the very obvious fact that it should be as few as possible for all
<yari> pmchi:
<yari> officers would be chair, vice-chair, scribe, treasurer, navigator, auditor, swarmcare
<Jester> Am back
<yari> advisory would be: PR & webmaster to start... but I feel as though there are other positions that can easily go there
 Jester has quit
<yari> tbh I think auditor should kind of be there but others suggested else and I see their reasoning
 Jester has joined
<Jester> Ugh, back again.
<yari> I'm sorry, it doesn't seem like my comments here are particularly productive. pmchi, you suggested that we formalize the wording of the advisory board in the bylaws next week
<Woden> Would it be a good idea to suggest that we should come to the next meeting with the list of positions in advisory that suit us and duke it out there?
<Jester> Sorry to leave before the meeting is over but I will have to go here soon.
<Msxv4> I think it's a good idea yari
<Jester> Do we need a vote on anything tonight? I will try and stay for that.
<pmchi> No it was helpful Yari thank you. I think I will come forward with more formal wording for presentation next week to make nominations official
<Woden> That's alright, though we would have to adjourn and start unofficial discussion
<Jester> Also I agree yari, I like it
<Jester> I’ll try and stay
<yari> okay pmchi can you please start an etherpad and share that wording responsibility with the collective
<pmchi> Motion to replace Direction of the On-Line nomination section with Navigator/State Moderator
<Woden> Is the new item from PA and CA something to vote on?
<Woden> We could move it up for Jester
<yari> 2nd pmchi's motion
<yari> that's a good one
<yari> and no, it's not a vote, it can wait
<Woden> Okay, discussion and debate for the motion
<yari> webmaster is cool and should be an advisory position
<Woden> I don't know if I'm a big fan, that's getting into doing something that will have consequences on the bylaws in a way where we don't technically have to change them yet
<yari> We've been doing that this whole time though
<Woden> And most voting and non voting members have done the navigator discussion with the presupposition that it will be advisory
<Woden> I'd like them to have input
<yari> hmm that's a good point
<yari> hang on, let me check one thing
<yari> i'd like to see if there are any nominations for webmaster
<Woden> I know we are, Yari, but this is inventing a new officer position without the vhange. Feels like a step further.
 Wanda has quit
<yari> it does, doesn't it.
<Jester> We might have to adjust things first so we have the proper infrastructure for this position
<yari> oof
<yari> for the record: there is one nomination, and it has been given by mitch
<yari> still
<yari> I think I agree with woden
<pmchi> If we’re leaning towards Navigator being the State Moderator position and upping responsibility/changing the role is the route, then it’s better that we just rename the role and give an extra hat versus replace it with an ideal. I think it would be the easier move, ultimately, but I think an even board of six with an advisor board of three could better invite collaboration? It might be better to have a smaller elected board with a
<pmchi> not-smaller-than-three advisory board
<yari> I mean we can reopen the state moderator position nominations?
<yari> yeah okay
<yari> friendly amendment
<Woden> I understand where you're coming from entirely, Mitch, but this still feels like going behind everyone for the immediate satisfaction of 2-4 of us
<yari> to reopen state moderator instead of adding a new position
<yari> so the motion would be: Motion to replace Direction of the On-Line nomination section with State Moderator
<yari> basically, to close webmaster nominations
<pmchi> That’s the motion as it was presented, Yari
<yari> and reopen state moderator nominations
<yari> no, I changed it
<yari> It no longer includes navigator
<Woden> That still feels like we're setting something up that goes against the spirit of the groundwork it was laid on (the navigator stuff).
<pmchi> OH I see your change reflected now
<yari> this way, if the board decides later to ignore the state moderator position, great.
<yari> if they choose to use it as the groundwork for the navigator, great
<yari> if they choose to ignore it and make navigator an appointed position, that works too
<yari> it leaves options open for the PNC next week
<Woden> I think we should change the form as few times as possible
<yari> I agree
<Woden> It's a democracy thing after all
<pmchi> AJ did we not discuss merging the roles of Navigator and State Moderator last week
<Woden> We did
<yari> Jester? thoughts?
<Woden> We also discussed moving navigator down to advisory, which is the spirit we left on
<Jester> I feel like simultaneously it is a good idea, but I don’t know if it will work as well given our current size and scope.
<yari> how do you mean current size and scope?
<Jester> Also changing a lot of stuff makes us look fickle
<yari> only 6 ppl have submitted nominations
<Jester> But the fact that we are at this stage means that change is much quicker to perform
<yari> I'm really not worried about that last bit
<pmchi> Here’s my stance on everything: I’d like a smaller-than-nine board. If we want to only remove Director of the On-line nominations without replacing it with the Navigator section, I am content with that.
<yari> yeah I would like to do that for the sake of ending the meeting
<Jester> I’d be fine with that for now
<yari> can we amend to just closing nominations for webmaster then
<yari> and call the vote
<yari> so long as pmchi is cool with it
<pmchi> I’d rather focus on getting in nominations for positions that will absolutely be positions after PNC 2023. I agree with Yari’s amendment and calling of the vote. Then motion to adjourn. Let’s discuss with a fuller board.
<yari> ^
<Jester> ^
<Woden> Sounds good. I like that idea.
<Woden> All in favor?
<yari> aye
<pmchi> Aye
<yari> If Jester's internet fails now...
<Jester> Aye
<Jester> Thank god
<Woden> Yippee!
<yari> haha
<Woden> Adjourn? (A/N)
<pmchi> Huzzah!
<yari> aye
<pmchi> Aye
<Jester> Aye
22:29:37 <Woden> Thank you everyone, I am exhausted
