Bodily Autonomy Plank

At the September 1st platform meeting the following was approved to be sent to the PNC for consideration as a new platform plank.

We believe that bodily autonomy should be universally protected with federal legislation or constitutional amendment rather than being protected by unstable court decisions or state governments. Everyone has the right to make decisions about their body without unjustified government interference. Limited evidence based public health regulations are appropriate to insure herd immunity, but the government must not use them to deny bodily autonomy.


Abortion is critical healthcare. Further restrictions on abortion have caused severe harms, when already the United States has the highest maternal mortality in the developed world. We will enact federal legislation protecting the right to an abortion. We will repeal the Hyde Amendment and guarantee abortion access with interstate-travel protections and legal protections for healthcare providers. To further enshrine abortion access, and close the door for future meddling, the Comstock Act should be repealed. We will ensure affordable access to contraception, IVF, and we will prohibit forced or coerced sterilization.

We will pass legislation affirming Lawrence v. Texas & Martin v. Ziherl and the right of consenting adults to engage in private sexual activity. We will ban conversion therapy federally, as it's an abhorrent archaic practice with no place in a free society.

We will decriminalize consensual adult sex work, while maintaining strong laws against trafficking, exploitation, violence, coercion and abuse of minors. Criminalization pushes sex workers away from healthcare and labor protections and drastically increases the rate of abuse.
We will protect access to gender affirming care, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgery. Morphological freedom is a critical aspect of bodily autonomy. We will guarantee an informed consent model nationally for those seeking gender affirming care. We will remove unnecessary barriers to care and deschedule testosterone. Through federal legislation, we will make legal gender based on a self-identification system, and recognize a third gender. The cost to change one’s legal name should be affordable. We will ban elective surgeries on intersex infants without an immediate medical concern.

Arizona

We did not have quorum for the meeting but we did have a lot of discussions about the next steps. There was no Outreach & Committee Updates. The Campaign Rally didn’t go as well as we hoped as only two people were there(me including). We did record a speech but the fact remains that the rally was a bust which is disappointing and unacceptable to say the least. Having such a rally while having to pay 250+ for it with such a result is just not something to try again going forward without more people joining the party and a better way of getting the word out. It’s just fruitless. Which means going back to the drawing board and increasing our outreach efforts. Most of the meeting was discussing strategies and reassessing whats next for the AZPP in that vein of prioritizing outreach efforts. Including creating an Outreach Action Plan to better plan out our outreach, finding ways to meet more people. Soon starting up Outreach Committee Again to get the ball rolling on that as well. Also we do plan to try and go to Phoenix again and try and find another date for the saber event we planned on attending in Phoenix. That said, we also plan to put as many of the signs as we can that we have around the strategic places we mentioned before. We planted one today(as of writing this) outside of the Oro Valley Library. The straight skinny from the meeting is just to increase our Outreach efforts to have more people join the party who can help us more.

• Mitch is continuing on his campaign. Weather has been bad but he still intends to get enough signatures to be on the ballot.

• They have camera mapping events coming up and the B-sides hackathon / crypto party event happening on October 25th.

• Next Thursday on October 1st at 5:30PM is the next OHPP meeting.

• passed with no objection.

• Ward read out the bodily autonomy plank sent by platform.
• Tipping asked for some clarifications on what bodily autonomy meant.
• Stoyarov explained the meaning of bodily autonomy from his perspective.

All Hands for a Free Future Discussion

• Ward brought up concerns she and other members of the pirate party have had about the coalition.
• Primary issues brought up were a lack of communication, failure on both ends to form a coalition council, the Transhumanist Party not operating as a democratic organization, and failure to coordinate for unendorsement of Jacob Anders.
• Stoyarov stated that the chairman of the Transhumanist Party has an indefinite term and can appoint a successor, which is not a democrat process.
• Stoyarov mentioned the cause was due to concerns about a large influx of members changing the direction of the party suddenly.
• Onoroski asked what the size of the party is and how long they have been established.
• Stoyarov stated that for the first 2 years of existence they had like 3 members. It was not intended to be a membership party but as a publicity vehicle for a transhumanist campaign. Currently they have 4800 members, but day-to-day have about 100 active.
• Stoyarov stated that he thought they would get to 10k members in 2 years, but he was being too optimistic.
• Tipping asked for clarification on dangers of opening up their membership to more democratic processes.
• Stoyarov stated up problems of entry-ism where a large bloc suddenly enters and shifts the direction of the party.
• Mitch stated up problems that result from not having a democratic structure.
• Boyt stated that Young Pirate's has an active member policy based on meeting attendance and adherence to values to deal with this exact problem
• Onoroski mentioned that he has very much tried to avoid his role as MAPP chair, but he has remained even while having democratic processes.
• Onoroski moved to form a council for the joint committee, seconded by Tipping.
